Northwest Holistic Pet Care: Homemade Dog Food for a 20 lb. Dog
Ingredients
8 ounces ground organic turkey thigh (boneless)
2 tbsp ground organic turkey organ meat (liver, gizzards, hearts)
¼ c finely grated organic veggies
1 tsp ground raw sunflower seeds
½ tsp organic coconut oil
½ tsp salmon oil
500 mg Calcium Citrate (*must include this!)
*Adjust ingredient measurements based on your dog's weight and activity level. The amounts listed above are for a 20 lb. dog who receives minimal exercise. A dog’s caloric needs can quadruple with intense exercise. Be sure to monitor your dog's weight and adjust meal portions to meet caloric requirements.
40 lb. Dog: Above amounts x 2
60 lb. Dog: Above amounts x 3
80 lb. Dog: Above amounts x 4
Directions:
Blanch veggies and set aside. Gently cook the ground turkey thigh and organ meat at a medium-low temperature. Remove from burner when most of the meat has turned white, but some remains pinkish. Place blanched veggies in food processor or clean coffee grinder and pulse until finely grated in appearance. Mix all ingredients together and serve after making sure the mixture has cooled down enough to eat.

2 bell peppers, seeded and chopped
a handful of leafy greens (I used chard), chopped
1 teaspoon of freshly grated ginger
1/2 c dried cranberries (make sure there is no added sugar, and no extra ingredients)

Dog Treats
Ingredients needed:
To make these dog treats for your favorite pet, all you need are these three ingredients- peanut butter, banana, and oats!
How to make dog treats:
Preheat your oven to 300F (150C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Add the oats to a food processor and grind until they reach a fine powder. (If you do not have a food processor, see the recipe notes for other options).
Add the bananas and peanut butter and blend until a sticky dough is formed.
Remove the mixture from the food processor and use a rolling pin to roll out on a lightly floured surface. (Use whole wheat flour, more ground oats, or another dog-safe flour that you have on hand). I used a heart cookie cutter to cut out the treats but you could use a bone cookie cutter, or any shape cookie cutter, or just cut them into squares with a knife or pizza cutter.
Lay the treats on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the treats are puffed up a bit, dry and dark golden brown on the bottoms, (they will still feel soft when first removed from the oven).
These homemade dog biscuits will get a bit more firm once they are cool but will still be a slightly softer dog treat. Let cool before giving one to your pup.
Store them in an air-tight container at room temperature for up to 1 week, in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, or I like to store them in my freezer which makes them firmer and makes them stay fresh a long time.
Sweet Potato Dog Chews
To make Easy DIY Sweet Potato Dog Chews:
Take 2 sweet potatoes. Or you could do just 1, or 7, or however many you like! I found that 1 sweet potato took up about 1 baking sheet, so I did two baking sheets worth.
Slice them up. I sliced mine into coins because Chickpea is only a medium-little dog, but if you have a bigger dog you could slice them lengthwise for larger chews. You don't want the pieces to be too thin or they will just get crispy and not chewy. So make sure they are no thinner than ¼ inch (see above photo for reference).
I use the mandoline attachment on my food processor so it took about 7 seconds to slice the potatoes.
Lay them all out on parchment paper-lined baking sheets in a single layer.
Then just pop the little dudes in the oven for 2 ½ to 3 hours flipping once half way through until they are shrunken, dried out, and some pieces are a bit crispy, while others are a bit chewy. Let cool, then store in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.
